The world is currently facing unprecedented challenges in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. As an organisation, we want to be very intentional in any decisions we make and any changes we implement during such a dynamic and difficult period. Our primary objective is to provide support and stability for our team, organisation, partners and communities.

That said, we also need to continue our work, which remains critical, particularly as we see how current events are disproportionately impacting certain populations and are used to distract from corruption and human rights violations. To do so we are looking for smart, passionate colleagues to join our team. Specifically, we are hiring for the following roles:

  • A Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Manager to join our Regional Support team. This person will support partners in sub-Saharan Africa to strategically, effectively and responsibly use data and technology. They will manage our support partnerships in the region and build relationships with relevant communities, figuring out context-specific ways to support civil society in the region to incorporate tech and data in a way that strengthens their work.
  • A Senior Leadership Consultant to join our senior leadership team to cover for our Deputy Director during their one-year sabbatical. This person will work closely with the leadership team to support in a variety of areas depending on their fields of expertise, such as fundraising, finances, strategy development and people management.

We know that for many, the current situation has made work and work-life balance difficult. Our work has always been remote and we prioritise policies and processes that provide flexibility and well-being, especially during times of crisis. You would join our core team, which is made up of inspiring, diverse and supportive people based in ten countries and four continents. You would work alongside these wonderful colleagues. Our core team is distributed, meaning the Internet is our office. Applicants should have a solid internet connection and, as our work can (under normal circumstances!) require travel, they should be near enough to an airport that they can comfortably hop on a plane.

WHY WORK WITH US?

We put a lot of effort into creating a healthy, remote organisation, and we believe that caring about our team’s wellbeing is a political act. Our team members are curious, humble and supportive of each other. We are critical optimists about the role technology and data can have in the push for social justice.

At The Engine Room, we consider diversity to be a competency. We actively seek new perspectives, experiences and voices in our team and in our work. Our organisation prioritises empathy, respect, humility, flexibility, fun and a healthy work-life balance. We highly encourage individuals from all areas of the world, backgrounds, experiences and identities to apply.

READY TO APPLY?

The application deadline for all of these roles is 4 May. Applications must be received via the links that can be found on our Jobs page. Submissions received via email will not be considered. In the interest of equity and efficiency, we ask people to look at our Jobs page as well as our Job Application Process FAQs if they have questions or if they would like an overview of our recruitment process or information on what it is like to work at The Engine Room.
