Digital resilience is not something we have to figure out alone. As part of our work with the Cybersecurity Assessment Tool (CAT), we have connected with social justice organizations navigating similar questions: How do we make safer technology choices? How do we navigate new developments and our relationship with AI? How do we respond to evolving threats such as technology-facilitated gender-based violence? And how do we build sustainable digital practices?
Alongside these questions, we have also seen an incredible depth of knowledge, creativity and curiosity within our communities who are experimenting, adapting and developing approaches rooted in their own contexts. We believe there is value in creating more opportunities to share that knowledge, learn from one another and strengthen our digital resilience collectively.
That is why we are creating the Resilience Circle, a community of practice for individuals and organizations in the Global Majority to learn from one another, share experiences and build digital resilience together.
What is the Resilience Circle?
The Resilience Circle is a space where organizations, practitioners, and community members interested in technology, digital security, and organizational resilience can connect, share experiences, strengthen their skills and support each other in navigating digital risks.
This space is targeted towards practitioners and digital security champions, who support or advance technology choices and infrastructure within their organizations, collectives or networks. This may include digital protection leads, systems administrators, or people who wear multiple hats and take on responsibilities related to digital safety, technology or organizational infrastructure. It is also for those who are curious about how to strengthen digital resilience within their groups and communities.
Our team at The Engine Room will bring diverse experience in digital resilience and responsible data to the Resilience Circle, facilitating capacity building alongside other practitioners. We hope to support partners to take meaningful steps in the short term while building longer-term pathways to strengthen their digital resilience and build confidence to make informed decisions about technology and data.
What will happen in the Resilience Circle?
Through peer learning sessions, thematic deep dives, threat and risk discussions, experimentation and play, members will have opportunities to:
- Share experiences and strategies to learn how other organizations are responding to technology and digital security challenges in different contexts
- Explore practical questions together. From protecting accounts and sensitive data to navigating AI and choosing technology tools, members will build confidence making safer technology decisions
- Discover useful tools and resources such as the Cybersecurity Assessment Tool (CAT), CAT Academy, and other digital resilience support through our knowledge hub
- Celebrate meaningful steps through spaces to set goals, reflect and celebrate steps taken towards stronger digital resilience
- Connect with support, learning about opportunities for deeper accompaniment such as our Matchbox program and Light touch support from The Engine Room and other practitioners
- Build relationships. Connect with people working through similar questions across regions, movements, and contexts.
- Shape the community. Help determine the topics, formats, resources, and conversations that would make the Resilience Circle most useful.
This is not intended to be a space where expertise only flows in one direction. Members bring valuable knowledge from their own contexts, communities and experiences. The Resilience Circle is an opportunity to make that knowledge more visible and strengthen our collective capacity to navigate technology with greater confidence and agency.
We will prioritize language justice in our activities through interpretation and translation to ensure our members can show up fully using their language of comfort.
Join our launch community call
We are kicking off the Resilience Circle with our first community call and we would love for you to join us.
Date: October 21, 2026
Time: 3:00 PM UTC
Session: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/ojjIbo7iQuGfDbL_jWPVzw
Language: English with interpretation options available
The launch will be an opportunity to meet other community members, learn more about the vision, begin co-creating community guidelines and help shape what this space could look like for you. We will be looking to answer questions like:
- What would make a community like this genuinely useful to you and your organization?
- What values should guide the community of practice?
- What channels of communication would be most effective?
We are looking forward to connecting with you at our first Resilience Circle community call and beginning this journey together. Please feel free to share the invitation with others who may be interested in joining the community.
If you are unable to join the community call but would like to join the Resilience Circle, please reach out to us on cybercat@theengineroom.org.
