Who we are
The Engine Room (TER) is a nonprofit organization with a distributed global team of experienced and committed activists, researchers, technologists and community organizers. Our vision is for social justice movements to use technology and data in safe, responsible and strategic ways, while actively mitigating the vulnerabilities created by digital systems. Since 2011, we have supported more than 800 organizations, big and small, from different corners of the globe. As a result of our work, humanitarian organizations have reconsidered using questionable technologies, more funders are managing grantee data in responsible ways, and many more activist groups have developed robust technical infrastructures and data management practices.
We are currently seeking an Associate for Resilient Tech. This role will help us strengthen and expand our ability to provide timely, security-conscious, and context-appropriate technical support to partners, while also advancing internal tech initiatives that build our organizational resilience. Role Overview
Our ideal candidate has experience providing tech and data support to resource-constrained civil society organizations. This includes strong knowledge and skills in organizational security, data practices, tech infrastructure, and documentation.They are clear and responsible communicators, collaborative, curious, and adaptable. They bring a strong understanding of how technology intersects with security and access in civil society contexts, and are able to collaborate closely with partners to deliver appropriate, values-aligned technical support. They also have experience in the core needs of sysadmin support and can offer that to our own team.
To grow and thrive, the new Associate for Resilient Tech will possess these qualities:
- Experience providing technical support to civil society organizations
- Experience working with a distributed remote team
- Strong technical knowledge including system administration, infrastructure, and organizational security
- Some software development skills (for example Python, JavaScript or HTML)
Additionally, the candidate must be based in a timezone between UTC-4 and UTC+3.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, remote position with flexible geographic location. The salary range for this position is $5,000-$6,000 USD per month. We offer generous benefits for leave, health, technology, professional learning, and wellness – as well as a shortened work week.
