Many organizations know they need to strengthen digital safety practices, but the questions are often the same: Where do we start? What actually matters for our context? Are the tools we use safe? What can we do with limited resources?

At The Engine Room, we support partners in navigating digital security and responsible data challenges through our Cybersecurity Assessment Tool and Light Touch Support. As part of that work, we’re excited to host our first Ask Me (Us) Anything: Cybersecurity Edition.

This session is designed for social justice organizations, nonprofits, and civil society groups looking for practical, context-aware conversations about digital safety. It’s also an opportunity to share approaches that are working in your own context and learn from others facing similar challenges.

Join us for a relaxed, supportive conversation and get a feel of the care-centered, collaborative spirit that shapes our CATIo spaces.

What we will explore together

We’ll respond to common questions that emerge through our work, but we also encourage you to bring your own questions. Some topics we might explore include:

  • What are the most common digital security risks facing civil society organizations today?
  • How can small teams strengthen digital safety without complex tools or big budgets?
  • What are practical ways to protect sensitive information in day-to-day work?
  • Which security practices make the biggest difference in high-risk or resource-constrained environments?
  • What resources and support are available to organizations looking to improve their digital  security?
  • How can teams introduce new security practices while fostering a culture of care?

We’re particularly interested in questionsrelated to two areas:

  • Digital care for small organizations
  • Countering disinformation

Bring your questions

You can submit questions through the registration form in advance or ask them during the live session. Following the event, we’ll curate and share a cybersecurity FAQ resource based on the discussion.

Don’t havea specific questions? That’s perfectly fine. You’re welcome to join, listen, and learn alongside others.

Bring yourquestions, the challenges you’re navigating, and the approaches you’re implementing in your organization. We will explore and learn from them together.
