Alix co-founded The Engine Room in 2011, and co-led the organisation before becoming the first Executive Director from June 2015 until she stepped down in September 2018. She is a recovering researcher with a passion for applying creative solutions to difficult problems. She is a hunter and gatherer, identifying data and technology strategies that can empower social change initiatives around the world to maximise their impact and make the most of their resources. She sits on the Advisory Council of Open Technology Fund, and the Technology Advisory Council of Amnesty International. She plays a mean game of chess.
Christopher Wilson co-founded The Engine Room in 2011, and co-led the development of the organisation until June 2015. Prior to co-founding The Engine Room, Christopher worked as the communications focal point for the UNDP Global Programme on Governance Assessments, and manager of the Global Forum on Freedom of Expression. Christopher holds an M.A. in international human rights law from University of Oslo and a B.A. in Rhetoric from University of California Berkeley.
Susannah Vila helped co-found the engine room and acted as a community lead for the organization until 2013. She is currently an MBA student at Columbia University exploring connections between civic engagement, technology, and business.
